B Corp Month – Our Community

B Corps are a growing movement of over 4000 companies around the world. We are using the power of business as a force for good. To become a B Corp, a company needs to meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

As a Certified B Corp since 2014, MaCher commits to positively impact all stakeholders in our business.  We firmly believe that strengthening the interconnections between our workers, communities, customers, suppliers and our planet, creates all the value in what we do.

Now in B Corp month, we wanted to share some of our stakeholder stories.

Our Communities

Our US head office is in one of the most beautiful, yet socially divided parts of the US. We are surrounded by an incredible beach, a preferred location for creative artists and work in numerous creative sectors. However, our ‘home’ in Venice, California also has a great number of people without any of the opportunities we have.

It does not help to work as an island. Instead, we must recognise our responsibility to the community where we work and live.

Committed to giving back

Our company’s formal commitment is for each team member to have 20 paid volunteer hours per year. In 2021, our team spent over 600 hours giving back to our communities.  We volunteered our time on issues that resonate with each of us personally.

One of the organizations that we have had the extraordinary privilege of working with this year has been the Creative Futures Collective.  Creative Futures is a non-profit that works with industry partners to help provide critical experience, income and a professional network to people from disadvantaged communities in the US. They are trying to establish the next generation of leaders for the country’s creative sectors.

Over the past 18 months, we have spent over 150 hours mentoring 5 people with Creative Futures and employing them for our team, product and report photography (see the images in our Sustainability Report here). These professionals with skills in photography, digital media, art and design have wanted additional guidance to support their career plans.

While mentoring, our team recognized the importance their own networks had in building their careers. They wanted to use their roles as mentors to help build the networks of their Creative Futures mentees so they too could benefit.

If we truly want to create change in our society, we need to break the cycles of systemic inequalities.

Please contact MaCher if you would like to know more about how we are caring for our communities.
